How do I do what I do?
Practice and Patience
I've had a lot of people talk to me about how I actually find bars that affordable. I feel like it's something that's worth talking about.
I'm a firm believer in the idea that the Internet can make us all experts in anything. The number one way that I find bars is by sifting through internet garbage. One of the main resources I used was www.drinkdeal.com. Now don't worry, I agree. Drink Deal looks like the type of website that was around when Al Gore 'invented' the internet. A lot stuff on the website is also crazy outdated or just flat out wrong. It usually takes 10-15 minutes to find a bar that A. hasn't gone out of business or B. actually has the deals that Drink Deal says they do.
Another potentially badass resource (that I haven't really tested) is www.priceperpint.com. The idea of it is that you just put in the area, the time, and what you want to drink and it'll recommend you places. Technology.
Lastly, word of mouth. Having friends and readers recommend me things has been ideal.
All that being said, I'm leaving the city for the summer, so this drunk guy will be takin' a little break. Not from drinking. Just from drinking in the city.
I'm considering continuing these adventures in the fall. If that's something that interests you just shoot me an email at getdrunkwiththisguy@gmail.com or comment below.

Continental Bar
[Quick Preface: My ankle did not recover as quickly as I would have desired and am stuck reviewing the bar based on previous visits]
25 Third Avenue (between St. Marks Place & 9th St.)
New York, NY 10003
$10 will get you 5 shots of any one liquor
$2 draft
Casssssssssh only
Continental Bar is what I would consider the daaaaanger zone
This is what I would consider to be a very deliberate destination. Ordering 5 shots at a time for the price of a mixed drink at any other bar? That seems beyyyyond dangerous
It's 100% a dive bar. And it's great. The bathrooms are kinda dirty. The bar is nice and dimly lit. But it's f#%*ing great.
It's not somewhere I would head to as an end destination. It's the pitstop that gets you where you need to be. If you and your friends are in the area and are planning to move to a new bar, Continental Bar is the perfect pitstop to keep your euphoric .08 BAC that you've worked so hard to achieve. I've never had a bad visit.
Alternately, I feel morally obligated to warn you that every time I've ended up there I've ended up spooning my porcelain throne by the end of the night. But I also am one of those people that could be 100% convinced he's on a boat in a storm any time he drinks.
Moving on.
Bartenders are always really friendly. The liquor is always plentiful. And it's always nice and packed on going out nights.
Last time I went, I went with a group of friends, spent 20 bucks and blew a .15 BAC.
Great Shot Bar. Great Bar.
